Summary
In the Richmond R-XVI School District, the Special Education Director is responsible for the leadership, administration, and supervision of the district’s Special Education program and services and for the leadership, administration, and supervision of the district’s Federal and State programs and services, including Title I, Title II, ESL, Migrant, Homeless, and Parents as Teachers.

Qualifications
 
Ability to work collaboratively with principals to implement and monitor special education programs; ability to work in a supportive, collaborative role with staff in all departments and offices; ability to interpret and remain current on all federal, state, and local mandates for special education and Section 504 services and to ensure that the school district is in compliance; handle confidential information discretely and professionally; use discretion and exercise sound judgment; exceptional public relations/interpersonal skills to respond to parents and advocacy groups and to serve as the school district’s lead representative/contact person of programs for special needs students; effective management, supervisory, team-building, and problem solving skills.
 
 
Education and Experience
 
Experience Required:  Prefer prior teaching experience in special education classrooms with increasing levels of administrative responsibility in Special Education curriculum
 
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:  elementary teaching certificate, master’s degree, special education administrator’s certificate and background check.

Richmond is located approximately 45 miles northeast of Downtown Kansas City, MO with just under 6,000 residents and a PreK-12 population of approximately 1600.
