Job Description:
The Kingston K-14 School District has an opening for a School Nurse for the school year. The successful candidate must be a licensed nurse, RN preferred, but an LPN will be considered. All work must be performed in accordance with accepted professional nursing standards.  The district offers competitive pay and benefits. We honor all years of experience from other districts on our salary schedule. There are opportunities to earn additional salary (coaching, after-school tutoring, and an after-school program). We have an on-site daycare for children ages 1 and up.
  
QUALIFICATIONS:  Valid Missouri license to practice as a registered nurse for the current year.
 
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
 
JOB GOAL:  To provide the fullest possible educational opportunity for each student by minimizing absences due to illness and creating a climate of health and well-being in the school.
 
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Identifies health problems through physical and developmental assessments & screening. Issues referrals and rescreening as indicated.  Participates in the Special Education Program Assessment Process.  Assists in the development and implementation of IEPs.
  2. Promotes prevention, wellness, and the limitation of disability (for students and staff) through early detection and referral for treatment of health problems. Follow up with referrals in a timely manner as indicated.
  3. Recommends modification of the educational program to meet the health needs of individual students.
  4. Routinely monitors board policies regarding the school health program and their effectiveness. 
  5. Develops a simple, practical, and appropriate plan for first aid and emergency care for students and staff. Maintains and updates school health manuals, policies, and procedures for both school health offices. 
  6. Assists in maintaining a safe and healthy school environment. Actively participates in disaster drills. 
  7. Inventories first aid kits for all school offices.  Maintains a list of CPR-certified personnel.
  8. Reports to parents, school staff, physicians, clinics, and other agencies on student/school health/medical matters.
  9. Prepares a quarterly newsletter regarding health issues and concerns. 
  10. Updates parents via written correspondence about specific health concerns and communicable diseases in the classroom.
  11. Assists in evaluating the comprehensive health education program and continually monitors it to keep it upgraded with current health issues and practices.
  12. Develops a yearly calendar of events for students, parents, and staff regarding programs and services offered by the health program.
  13. Responsible for the early identification and exclusion of students and staff with communicable diseases to prevent further outbreaks and the spread of these diseases, by enforcing school board policies and local and state statutes regarding these diseases.   
  14. Reports the number of communicable diseases to the Health Department on a weekly basis.
  15. Reports suspected cases of child abuse or neglect to the Division of Family Services Hot Line as regulated by Missouri statutes and reports any cases of suspected abuse to the Superintendent and Building Principals.
  16. Maintains current and cumulative health records on all students. Updates records in a timely, consistent, and efficient manner. 
  17. Maintains confidentiality of all health records.  Maintains clinic log, medication administration logs, and orders.  Develops IHPs as necessary.
  18. Maintains emergency medical information for staff members and students. Maintains emergency action plans for all students and staff who have special health needs such as asthma, diabetes, a history of severe anaphylaxis, etc.

EVALUATION:
Performance in this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with the District's policy on the evaluation of support staff.
 
SALARY:  Salary and work year to be in accordance with the current pay plan and District policy. Starting LPN is $21.30, and RN is $25.85.
