POSITION TITLE: Assistant Principal, Middle School
REPORTS TO: School Principal
POSITION SUMMARY: Assists the principal in providing middle school educational programs to ensure that each student enrolled in grades 6th-8th receives the best possible educational experience in a positive learning environment.
FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
Essential Functions
Education: Broad knowledge of an advanced and professionally specialized discipline or other studies not available in undergraduate schools, involving an advanced theoretical knowledge within a specialized field. Equivalent to a Master’s degree.
Experience: Requires a minimum of three years up to and including five years of successful secondary teaching experience; and practical experience in instructional management, effective teaching models and curriculum development.

POSITION SUMMARY: Assists the principal in providing middle school educational programs to ensure that each student enrolled in grades 6th-8th receives the best possible educational experience in a positive learning environment.
FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
Essential Functions
- Assists the principal with administering the operation of the school and communicating any developments affecting performance of assigned duties and responsibilities.
- Evaluates, encourages and recommends improvements regarding the instructional program and the activity programs related to learning improvement and maximum student participation; assists teachers in developing classroom management plans.
- Assist the principal in formulation of school objectives in support of the district objectives and policies.
- Assists in the evaluation of candidates and selection of prospective members of the certificated and support staff.
- Assists in evaluating performance of the staff for the purpose of improving the instruction program and determining eligibility for re-employment.
- Assumes a proactive role with regard to disciplinary action required for students that demand personal attention.
- Assists the principal in the development of the master schedule and grade reporting; and in preparation of reports requested by district supervisory personnel and/or outside agencies.
- Participates in monthly Parent Teacher Association meetings and other related PTA activities.
- Provides assistance with the program for transitioning students from junior high to high school.
- Assists with development of the annual budget for the school’s planned educational program.
- Positively and objectively represents and interprets the school to the community; and participates in professional activities designed to enhance competency in all areas of responsibility.
- Track record of improving student achievement.
- Experience with diverse student populations.
- Serves as an instructional leader for the school and moves the school toward continuous academic improvement.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Must be able to run, jump, walk, stand, sit, and lift.
- Organizes the student council and school pep club for participation in district student activities.
- Makes the daily announcements to all teachers and students over the public address system and performs routing clerical tasks as required.
- Standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing.
- Normal attention with clarity of vision at 20 inches or less as well as 20 feet or more, required.
- Light physical demand with regular lifting of very light to light (1 to 25 lbs.) items by hand
