Role Overview

The Elementary Math Resident Teacher is a novice teacher who is building their instructional skills and content knowledge through guided practice and collaboration. Focused on 4th and 5th grade math, the Math Resident will provide in-classroom push-in support, lead small group math instruction for both intervention and enrichment, and participate in collaborative planning and data analysis with Atlas’ upper elementary math team.

This role is designed to be a stepping stone toward a full-time lead teaching position in our math department. Through close coaching and mentorship, the Math Resident will grow in their ability to deliver rigorous and engaging math instruction aligned to Atlas' curricular vision.

Key Responsibilities

Instructional Support & Small Group Teaching
  • Push into 4th and 5th grade math classrooms to support instruction and student learning
  • Lead small intervention and enrichment groups with a focus on meeting students’ specific learning needs
  • Provide targeted, data-driven instruction aligned to grade-level standards and Atlas’ math curriculum (Illustrative Math)
Curriculum & Planning
  • Study and internalize Atlas’ math curricular materials and instructional strategies
  • Participate in lesson planning meetings with lead teachers and instructional coaches
  • Support lesson preparation and materials organization to ensure a smooth classroom experience
Assessment & Data Use
  • Assist in administering math assessments and progress monitoring tools
  • Analyze student data to identify trends, track growth, and inform small group instruction
  • Reflect on instructional effectiveness and adjust support accordingly
Professional Development & Coaching
  • Engage in regular coaching cycles with the Dean of Math Instruction
  • Observe lead teachers, debrief instructional strategies, and practice implementation
  • Participate in professional development sessions and team learning opportunities
School Culture & Collaboration
  • Uphold Atlas’ high behavioral and academic expectations by modeling consistency, care, and professionalism
  • Foster positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues
  • Participate in grade-level team meetings, school-wide events, and family engagement activities
Qualifications

Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree (Education, Math, or related field preferred)
  • A deep belief in the potential of all students and a commitment to educational equity
  • Passion for elementary mathematics and foundational skill development
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset
  • Desire to grow professionally and openness to feedback and coaching
     
Preferred:
  • Prior experience working with students in an educational setting (e.g., tutoring, after-school programs, student teaching)
  • Progress toward teacher certification or interest in pursuing certification through Atlas' talent pipeline
In order to serve as a Math Resident at Atlas, you must:
  • Provide an official transcript from an undergraduate institution
