Position Title: Special Education Process Coordinator
Reports to: Director of Special Programs
SUMMARY: Assists the Director of Special Services with administrative oversight of the special education process. Helps ensure students with special needs are receiving an appropriate free public education.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.  
  • Participates in special education initiatives.
  • Aid in the maintenance of a systematic program for students identified under IDEA. 
    • Assists with the effective day-to-day operation of the special education programs. 
    • Communicate procedures related to special education compliance to staff.  
    • Participates as a member of the staffing during educational evaluations of IDEA.
    • Score and provide a written interpretation of standardized behavior measures as needed.
    • Assist in gathering and analyzing information on student progress in Special Education.  
    • Review educational evaluations and IEPs for compliance under IDEA.
    • Monitors student files for compliance.  
    • Implement and disseminate details of procedural safeguards.  
    • Assist in planning/coordinating in-service training activities related to Special Education compliance.
  • Maintains good communication and strong working relationships with other school staff members and parents.
  • Demonstrates effective problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Conducts self at all times as a representative of the school and assists the Director of Special Services in establishing and maintaining a good relationship with the community. 
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Board of Education, Superintendent, and/or Director of Special Programs.  

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Compliance monitoring of special education staff.
QUALIFICATIONS:  Minimum of a Master’s Degree with professional preparation in at least one area of Special Education or related area, Certification in at least one area of special education or related area, Valid Missouri Special Education teaching certificate. 
EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Teacher Evaluation as per employment classification. 
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Nine-month teacher contract plus extended contract of 17 days. Salary and work year to be established by the Board of Education.
