Job Goal:
To create a flexible grade level program within the homebound setting which supports learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with pupils; to motivate pupils to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for lifelong learning, in accordance with each pupil’s ability; and to establish good relationships with parents and with other staff members.
Performance Responsibilities:
  • Teaches a specified content area to pupils within a homebound setting, using the course of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities
  • Instructs pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil
  • Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction
  • Evaluates pupils’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports
  • Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss pupil’s progress and interpret the homebound program
  • Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude and learning problems
  • Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities
  • Administers group standardized tests in accordance with district testing program
  • Works with the building principal or Director, the pupil’s teacher(s) and members of the Special Services Department to assess the educational needs and the physical and learning capabilities of those students requiring home instruction
  • Meets with each assigned student on a regularly-scheduled basis for the purpose of providing instruction
  • Assumes responsibility for obtaining textbooks and other teaching materials necessary for homebound instruction through the procedures established
  • Facilitates a positive and orderly environment for learning for the homebound student
  • Other duties as assigned
Terms of Employment:
This position is an on-call basis. Stipend and work year to be established by Board of Education.
Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
