REPORTS TO:          Chief Operations Officer
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive leadership experience in operations, facilities management, or a related field.
  • Experience in a K-12 educational environment is highly desirable.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with staff, parents, patrons.
  • Strong knowledge of facilities management, maintenance operations, and custodial services.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations, building codes, and environmental standards.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in using technology, including facility management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
Bachelor’s degree preferred.
 
JOB SUMMARY
The Director of Facilities is responsible for overseeing the planning, coordination, and execution of operational functions that support the school district’s educational mission. This role provides leadership in maintaining safe, clean, and efficient facilities and grounds while ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and district policies. The Director of Facilities supervises the maintenance, facilities, custodial, grounds, and warehouse teams to achieve high operational standards and supports a conducive learning environment.
 
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Strategic Planning and Leadership:
  • Develop and implement short- and long-term operational plans that align with the district’s strategic goals.
  • Provide leadership and direction to staff, fostering a culture of excellence, teamwork, and accountability.
  • Recommend and manage budgets for assigned areas, ensuring fiscal responsibility.
Facilities Management:
  • Oversee maintenance, repair, and improvement projects for all district facilities to ensure safety, functionality, and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Develop and manage preventive maintenance schedules for facilities and equipment.
  • Coordinate capital improvement projects, including renovations and new construction, in collaboration with architects, contractors, and district leadership.
  • Perform evening or weekend work to address emergencies or attend meetings.
  • Collaborate with supervisory staff to ensure appropriate staffing and workplace issues are addressed in accordance with district policy.
Custodial Services:
  • Ensure that custodial teams maintain clean, sanitary, and inviting facilities in all district buildings.
  • Develop and implement cleaning protocols and schedules to meet health and safety requirements.
  • Monitor custodial supply inventories and ensure efficient use of resources.
  • Communicate regularly with supervisory staff to provide support for effective management of the work unit
