Job Overview:
The Dean of Literacy at Atlas Elementary will play a pivotal role in advancing literacy development across the school. Responsibilities include collaborating with teachers to develop and refine literacy curriculum, providing coaching and support to teachers, delivering targeted intervention to students with reading difficulties, and collaborating with the broader literacy team and stakeholders to integrate intervention strategies.

Key Responsibilities:
Curriculum Development:
- Collaborate with teachers to refine literacy curriculum, ensuring alignment with educational standards and best practices.
Coaching:
- Provide guidance and coaching to teachers in implementing effective instructional strategies and interventions in the classroom. This includes conducting observations, providing feedback, and modeling best practices in literacy instruction. The literacy dean works collaboratively with teachers to enhance their instructional skills and ensure alignment with the school's literacy goals.
Assessment and Data Analysis:
- Oversee the assessment of students' reading abilities, analyze data to identify trends and areas for improvement, and use findings to inform instructional decisions and interventions.
Collaboration:
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment of reading instruction with overall school goals, and communicate regularly with parents and the community about reading initiatives and student progress.
Professional Development:
- Participate in and lead professional development and strategic planning opportunities to enhance teachers' literacy instructional skills.
Reading Intervention:
- Develop and implement customized Reading Success Plans that target students' individual needs and are aligned to the science of reading.
- Provide one-on-one or small group reading intervention to students with identified reading difficulties.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Education, Literacy, or a related field.
- Teaching certification and 4+ years experience in literacy instruction.
- Experience coaching teachers in literacy instruction preferred.
- Strong background in the Science of Reading, structured literacy practices, and evidence-based reading interventions.
- Strong understanding of literacy assessment and intervention strategies
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders.
