CERTIFICATED POSITION DESCRIPTION
Hiring Timeline:
Title: Elementary Principal
Qualifications:
Reports To: Superintendent
Supervises: Assistant principal, teachers, and office staff
Job Goal:
The principal is responsible for providing effective instructional leadership and is accountable for the overall operation of the school. Major responsibilities include the educational program, professional and classified staff, student development, facility maintenance and management, fiscal management of activities, and developing effective community relations.
Performance Objectives:
Terms of Employment:
The superintendent makes employment recommendations in February of each year for the next fiscal year. The principal shall be employed on a 260 day basis. Employment will be secured through a written contract, which will state the terms of the appointment, compensation, benefits and other conditions of employment. The principal’s contract shall be reviewed annually and may be extended at the discretion of the Board, not to exceed two (2) years.
Evaluation:
Performance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of MSBA Board of Education Policy on Evaluation of Principals (CFB)

- Valid Missouri K-8 principal certificate issued by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education
- A minimum of two years of teaching experience
- Five years of recent and relevant school leadership experience
- Effective communication, team-building, and organizational skills
- Provide effective instructional leadership

Performance Objectives:
- Leads in the development, implementation, and communication of educational goals
- Provides strong and positive educational leadership in organizing, developing, and administering the instructional program of the elementary school
- Utilizes state data to identify areas of strength and weakness; communicates this information to staff for curriculum goal setting
- Assist with establishing and monitoring standards, procedures and routines for student, staff and school safety
- Provides leadership in developing the necessary climate for change and growth within the school
- Supervises teaching staff and programs in accordance with building and district philosophy
- Annually assess staffing needs and recommend reassignment to meet district needs according to policies GCI and GDI
- Provides for effective and efficient day-to-day operation of school facilities that are conducive to a positive learning environment
- Provides input to the Maintenance and School Nutrition supervisors about all support services located within the building to maintain an efficient, clean, safe, attractive, and functional facility
- Promote positive school and community relationships
- Supervision at school events
- Establishes and maintains effective discipline in the school and promotes a positive school climate
- Demonstrates knowledge of finance and budget within the specific area(s) of authority and discharges the responsibility for making expenditures in accordance with the operational philosophy of the Board of Education
- Assure building goals are congruent with the District CSIP and Board policy
- Comply with federal, state, local, and Board of Education policies and regulations
- Perform other duties as assigned by the superintendent of schools.
