POSITION: READING SPECIALIST for the 2024-2025 school year up to 29 hours at $43 per hour.

STATUS: PER SCHEDULED CLIENT HOUR, DAYTIME AND AFTER SCHOOL HOURS AVAILABILITY; MINIMUM OF TWO SCHOOL DAYS OR EVENINGS PER WEEK REQUIRED.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in teaching from accredited school
  • Must have a Missouri DESE certification as a teacher and reading specialist
  • Requires a minimum of one year teaching experience as a reading specialist
  • Prefer knowledge and application of Orton-Gillingham reading programs such as Wilson and/or SPIRE.
  • Ability to use computer and web based programs.
PAY: $43 per hour
The reading specialist will build a caseload of clients to fill the hours he/she wants to work. The tutor provides individual tutoring to students who struggle with reading. The tutor may travel to different schools to provide services when available during the daytime or he/she may provide 1:1 tutoring after school and during the early evening to students at area libraries or at the Learning Center. The tutor evaluates a student's academic issues as they pertain to reading, set measurable objectives, and provides instruction to improve upon deficit areas. The tutor maintains progress records and communicates progress to parents. He/she must be able to respond to work requests very quickly via email or phone.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Maintain ongoing communication with the Learning Center regarding your tutoring availability.
  2. Readily accept students assigned within the tutor's availability and expertise.
  3. Provide a professional assessment of each child's weaknesses and strengths as they relate to reading.
  4. Assess both the child and family's expectations of treatment and assist the family in reaching realistic goals for treatment.
  5. Provide appropriate treatment based upon a child's academic assessment and track progress towards the student's goals.
  6. Maintain a web-based account for progress towards goals following each tutoring session.
  7. Set measurable objectives for each student.
  8. Communicate with parents regularly with updates on progress and other professionals involved with the student as needed.
  9. Communicate absences with families and the Learning Center.
  10. Submit billing in a timely manner.
  11. Any other duties as specified by the supervisor.
