ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assumes primary responsibility for the organization, administration, and supervision of the overall program of extra-curricular activities and athletics.
- Assists in the daily supervision of students.
- Administers issues regarding student attendance, behavior, and discipline.
- Supervises and evaluates high school coaches during the season of the sport and assists them in the development of their program.
- Develops and maintains a plan for effective communication with all coaches, parents, and administrators.
- Develops, maintains, and administers a master calendar of athletic competitions and activities (assemblies, games, tournaments, camps, plays, concerts, general building usage, and fundraising activities). Communicates and distributes this calendar with all appropriate stakeholders.
- Collaborates with Athletic Directors/Administrators from other schools to schedule all opponents.
- Schedules the use of all school facilities, including the use of the gymnasium and athletic facilities.
- Promotes good school-community relations and partnerships, school spirit, and sportsmanship by keeping staff, students, parents, booster clubs, and the community aware of and responsive to the athletic/activities programs.
- Issues/records contracts and schedules all officials, team physicians, and policemen/security as needed.
- Oversees the administration of all home athletic events. Assures that all home athletic events are adequately supervised.
- Utilizes auxiliary programs such as transportation, food service, maintenance, and custodial services to support the athletic and activities programs.
- Schedules buses for athletics and activities as needed.
- Maintains a record of all award winners and ensures that accomplishments of students and staff are recognized.
- Develops and places into operation appropriate rules and regulations governing the conduct of athletic activities.
- Establishes the academic requirements of eligibility for participation and prepares master eligibility lists.
- Maintains current knowledge and enforcement of all MSHSAA rules and regulations.
- Supervises and evaluates teachers and support staff as directed by the principal.
- Employs sound fiscal management procedures, methods, and techniques to prepare, revise, administer, and monitor the athletic and activities budget and subsequent use of that budget for interscholastic sports and equipment. Assure approval prior to expenditure and oversee balances.
- Applies techniques and record keeping methods appropriate for collection and disbursement of funds.
- Keeps and maintains an adequate inventory of all athletic equipment (with the coaches).
- Checks the game fields and/or courts for game readiness. Keeps maintenance up-to-date on field preparation requirements.
- Attends the Suburban Athletic Directors meetings, as well as other meetings that may arise.
- Keeps current with current developments in the field of athletic administration.
- Approves fund-raising activities in accordance with district regulations and Board of Education policies.
- Reviews all constitutions and maintains them in an official file.
- Performs other tasks as assigned by the principal.
- Attend and lead various meetings during the school day, evenings, and weekends.
- Implement programs within established standards, Board of Education policies, District Regulations, and state laws as they apply to the local site.
- Handles confidential information appropriately.
- Ability to communicate and work effectively with a variety of clienteles, including students, parents and staff.
- Physical stamina to handle challenging work schedule.
- Respect for students, parents and staff and a alm demeanor for dealing with the needs of students.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment on sensitive issues.
- Ability to effectively resolve conflict between various stakeholders with diverse backgrounds and needs.
- Ability to accomplish tasks that are often interrupted by persons with special and/or immediate needs.
- Must possess effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Master’s degree or higher, with a major in educational administration required.
- Must hold a current Missouri secondary principal’s certificate.
- Successful secondary school administration and supervision experience preferred.
- Extensive coaching experience.
- At least three years successful experience as a classroom teacher.
