School Resource Officer 
Job Description:
Valley R-VI School District is seeking a School Resource Officer. This position is a full-time, 11 month position with the salary & work day schedule to be established by the Board of Education.
Reports To:
The School Resource Officer reports directly to the Elementary & JH/High School Principals under the authority of the Superintendent of Schools.
Qualifications:
? Education:
o Certificate, license, or other legal credential required.
o Degree(s) or certification required in the area of major study.
o The SRO must be eligible to be commissioned with the Washington County & Iron County Sheriff’s Departments.
o Must be P.O.S.T. certified as a police officer with full arrest authority.
o Must be able to attend and pass the SRO Certification class.
? Work Experience:
o Prior job experience working in law enforcement with focus on service in schools preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
? Able to promote the district mission and a positive image of Valley R-VI Schools to students, staff, parents, vendors, visitors, and the public
? Excellent communication, interpersonal skills and strength in collaborating with others to accomplish common goals
? Ability to maintain confidentiality
? Takes initiative, detail-oriented and is highly organized.
? Ability to work in a climate controlled building, as well as in inclement weather.
? Ability to stand, walk, and move around for long periods of time
? Requires constant hand-eye/mind-eye coordination, hearing; intermittent walking, talking and writing.
? Frequent keyboarding and repetitive motions with wrists, fingers, and hands are required.
? Ability to see and read, with or without vision aids, a computer screen and printed matter, and to distinguish colors.
? Sufficient hearing to understand speech at normal room levels, and to hear and understand speech on the telephone.
? Manual dexterity to operate a telephone and enter data into a computer using both hands.
? Ability to communicate, effectively and efficiently with sufficient volume to be heard in normal conversation, on the telephone, and addressing groups.
? Ability to exert up to 30 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
? Ability to lift, bend, stoop, pull, grasp, and carry a variety of objects of different shapes and sizes.

Essential Duties:
? To be a visible, active law enforcement figure on each campus dealing specifically with law enforcement matters originating on the assigned campus.
? To be a classroom resource for law education using district approved materials.
? To be a resource for students and attempt to create a positive, productive connection to a law enforcement figure.
? To be a liaison between local law enforcement, juvenile agencies, Courage to Report, etc. and the school district.
? To be a resource for teachers, parents, and students for conferences on an individual basis dealing with individual problems or questions, particularly in the areas of conflict resolution and substance control.
? To develop plans and strategies to prevent and/or minimize dangerous situations which might result in student unrest.
? To lead training for staff on CPI - to include Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, de-escalation, behavior management programs, seclusion, isolation, and restraint.
? To develop plans to deal and react to situations of student violence, hostage situations, bomb threats, and other situations of danger to students and/or school employees.
? A positive attitude as well as a focus on service for all students, staff, parents, and community members.
? Other duties as assigned by supervisor
