Job Description:

The Track and Field Throws Coach will direct and lead all aspects of the throws squad (shot put, discus and javelin) at St. Louis University High.
Supervisory Responsibilities:

• Partners with the Track and Field Head Coach to execute a mission and vision for the development of student-athletes through their participation in throws (shot put, discus, and javelin)
• Assists the Track and Field Head Coach in providing performance evaluations that are timely and constructive

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Executes strategies for engaging student-athletes in mind, body, and spirit in accord with the Athletic Mission Statement and Ignatian values
• Sets lineup for meets in collaboration with other coaches in the track and field program
• Provides instruction to team members aimed at skill development and growth over the season
• Promotes sportsmanship among coaches and student-athletes throughout all levels of the program
• Attends all required coaches meetings
• Engages with the Track and Field Head Coach regarding the academic status of the members of the throws squad
• Complies with the Metro Catholic Conference and MSHSAA guidelines
• Partners with medical staff to prioritize the health of the student-athletes on the throws squad
• Performs other related duties as assigned

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Thorough understanding of the sport of track and field - specifically shot put, discus and javelin - and possesses strategies on how to communicate and convey that understanding to the student-athletes in all levels of the program
• Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and managerial skills
• Ability to appropriately communicate with student athletes, parents and coaches
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Proficient in Google Suite or related software

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree
• Throws coaching experience is preferred

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods standing and moving during practices, meets and other competitions
• Must be able to watch and analyze video of throwers
• Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at a time
